GLACIER COMPUTER ANNOUNCES EVEREST E2000 Windows Thin Client

New Milford, CT – May 26, 2010

Glacier Computer, a leading developer of rugged industrial computing solutions announced today that the Everest E2000 now provides an optional Windows CE Thin Client. The Windows CE Thin Client is a minimal version of Microsoft Windows CE that includes the Catalog items necessary to support a Remote Desktop device — including a constrained shell and Microsoft RDP.

The Windows Thin Client device is a remote terminal that hosts client-side connections to a remote Terminal Server. This includes Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol and a Web Browser.
With RDP and Internet Explorer you can create two-way communication between a Terminal Server and the Everest.
“This is a good option if you need to lock down the application on your device. It easily prevents the user from getting behind the application and possibly corrupting the OS.”, said Dan Poisson, Director of Engineering, Glacier Computer. “Many times it is easier for the user since only the single application is available and from a management perspective, the Thin Client can be easier to boot-up and update.”

The E2000 will also run the full version of Windows CE 6.0, and as part of the Glacier family of rugged computers is designed for vehicle and fixed-mount industrial applications. All Everest Vehicle Mount Terminals including the E5000/E4000 and E2000 are engineered to withstand extremes of vibration, shock, and moisture while providing users ready access to critical information. Whether on a forklift, manufacturing floor, or distribution center dock door, the Everest increases efficiency, accuracy, and productivity 24/7, 365 days per year.

Glacier’s Everest vehicle mount computers feature a custom onboard diagnostic and configuration utility, as well as programmable function buttons. The utility provides IT personnel with “flight recorder” like data as well as real time access to key statistics such as processor temperature, reboots, etc. The function buttons offer the unique ability to program frequently used tools into one-touch availability, thereby extending the life of the touchscreen.

With a 12V to 48V isolated internal power supply, the Everest eliminates the need for external power converters or filters when mounting onto forklifts and other vehicles. Additional key features include multiple standard I/O, USB 2.0, internal 1 hour smart UPS and multiple expansion slots. The Everest series offers 802.11a/b/g LAN, WAN, and GPS options. Glaciers’s Everest series of computers are HALT tested, and have passed thermal and reliability testing, and have an MTBF of nearly 40,000 hours.
