Glacier Computer, a leading developer of rugged industrial computing solutions announced today the release of the Everest S9000 stainless steel rugged computer terminal.

The Everest S9000 is designed for customers who require a stainless steel, IP65/NEMA 4 sealed unit to meet the hygienic standards in food processing, healthcare, chemical and pharmaceutical industries. The S9000 is also suitable for conditions that require a water resistant terminal such as outdoor kiosks, clean rooms and some marine applications.

“We designed the Everest S9000 for a valued customer in food processing who needed a rugged computer terminal that could withstand caustic daily wash-downs and consistently perform to the same standard as the Everest series models they were currently using,” states Dan Poisson, Director of Engineering for Glacier. “The S9000 stainless steel terminal provides a smooth casing with a flush-mount resistive touch panel and sealed IO connectors making it virtually waterproof.” says Poisson.

The Everest S9000 utilizes the INTEL Atom N270 1.6 GHz processor with a 2.5” SATA HDD, Internal 802.11 a/b/g/n, dual internal antennas, 12” and 15” displays and will offer optional mounting systems, external power supply and power adaptor. Glacier is excited to expand the current Everest Series models E5000, E4000 and E2000. The S9000 will run Windows® XP and Windows® 7 operating systems.

The addition of the EX25 Imager offers unparalleled flexibility to read 1D and 2D barcodes, omni-directionally at distances from 6 inches to over 50 feet (15 cm to 15m). The M300 & M305 now provides near and far range scanning on paper barcodes for extra long-range reading of pallet labels from the ground up to the third level of stacking. Built to work in the most hostile environments, the EX25 Imager operates from total darkness to full sunshine over a large temperature range and complies with the most stringent standards for shock and vibration.

All Glacier Computer mobile computers will ship with Stay-Linked’s thin-client software pre-installed. Glacier Computer also announced that it has completed certifying Stay-Linked thin client terminal emulation software for use with Glacier’s Everest E2000 rugged industrial computer. The Everest E2000 will now ship with the Stay-Linked client pre-loaded.

Glacier Everest E2000 customers can now utilize the benefits provided by the award-wining Stay-Linked software for terminal emulation, devices management and voice enablement. Stay-Linked provides wireless terminal emulation connecting to 5250/3270, VT100/220 and SSHv2 host systems while maintaining the highest level of performance, reliability and data security. The Stay-Linked Administrator GUI Console application gives IT staff total visibility and control of all Stay-Linked connected terminal emulation users sessions, wireless terminal devices and configuration settings.

Stay-Linked Speech™ will allow Glacier customers to easily voice-enable their existing terminal emulation applications. Due to changes in demand coupled with increasing manufacturing costs, Intel has elected to discontinue the processor (Pentium M) and chipset (GME 852/855) products. As such, it is necessary for Glacier Computer to designate the above listed processors for End of Life (EOL). The Everest models E4000 & E5000 are now equipped with the Intel® Atom 1.6 GHz processor.

The Windows CE Thin Client is a minimal version of Microsoft Windows CE that includes the Catalog items necessary to support a Remote Desktop device — including a constrained shell and Microsoft RDP.

The Windows Thin Client device is a remote terminal that hosts client-side connections to a remote Terminal Server. This includes Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol and a Web Browser.
With RDP and Internet Explorer you can create two-way communication between a Terminal Server and the Everest.
“This is a good option if you need to lock down the application on your device. It easily prevents the user from getting behind the application and possibly corrupting the OS.”, said Dan Poisson, Director of Engineering, Glacier Computer. “Many times it is easier for the user since only the single application is available and from a management perspective, the Thin Client can be easier to boot-up and update.”
